Best Breakfast in Bali: Where to Start Your Day Right

From beachside cafés to all-day grill spots — here's where to find the best breakfast on the island.

Breakfast in Bali isn't an afterthought

On an island built around long, slow days, breakfast sets the tone. Skip the hotel buffet and Bali has a genuinely strong breakfast scene — fresh fruit, good coffee, and a handful of places that treat the morning meal as seriously as dinner.

Here's where to actually go.

For an all-day spot that starts early

Most restaurants in Bali only open for breakfast or only for dinner — rarely both done well. Ju Bali is one of the exceptions. Open from 8:00 in the morning until midnight, it's an immersive grill restaurant with tropical greenery and an outdoor jacuzzi zone — but it also runs a proper breakfast menu for anyone starting their day early.

It means you can have a relaxed morning coffee in the same space you'd come back to for a fire-grilled dinner later that night. Not many places on the island let you do that.

For classic Balinese flavors

Look for nasi goreng or bubur ayam (rice porridge with chicken) at local warungs — simple, fast, and authentic. These are best found slightly off the main tourist strips, in Ubud or inland Canggu, where prices stay local and the food is cooked the traditional way.

For health-focused, Instagram-friendly breakfasts

Canggu and Ubud are full of smoothie bowl cafés — think dragon fruit bowls, granola, and fresh coconut. This style of breakfast dominates the island's café scene and is easy to find within a five-minute walk almost anywhere in these two areas.

For a proper sit-down breakfast with atmosphere

If you want breakfast to feel like part of the experience — not just fuel before the beach — go somewhere with a setting that matches the meal. This is where Ju Bali stands out again: soft morning light through the greenery, an open kitchen, and a pace that doesn't rush you out the door. It works well for slow mornings, working remotely over coffee, or starting a celebration day early.

A few practical notes

  • Most local warungs open around 7:00–8:00 AM; café-style breakfast spots often open slightly later, around 8:00–9:00.
  • Balinese coffee (kopi Bali) is strong and usually unfiltered — ask for it filtered if you prefer it smoother.
  • Breakfast in Bali is generally inexpensive, even at nicer venues — expect to pay a fraction of Western prices for a full meal.

The short answer

Bali's best breakfasts split into two camps: fast, authentic, and local — or slow, scenic, and worth lingering over. Ju Bali falls firmly into the second category, with the added benefit of staying open long enough that you could, in theory, start your morning and end your night in the exact same seat.
